Nokia Reports Abysmal Profits

Market leader Nokia attests to the fact that the US economy is in trouble and with it, the global economy. The Finnish cell phone maker Nokia reported today a 30 percent distil in third-quarter net profit amid falling sales and lower prices for its handsets.

Nokia said its market share was shrinking, ticking in at right 38 percent in the third part quarter from 40 percent in the previous three-month period and from 39 percent in the third quarter of 2007.

Net profit in July through September plummeted to 1.09 billion euros ($2.7 billion), from 1.56 billion euros a year earlier. Net sales dropped 5 percent to 12.2 billion euros ($16.6 billion), from 12.9 billion euros.

Last month, Nokia had warned that its market share would drop because of price cuts by competitors, but said it would not change its sales military science.

Anyone remember back in the day before portable music players were synonymous with the name iPod or MP3? Back then Sony's Walkman was the thing to bring forth. In an announcement today, it appears Sony's looking to resurrect some of the Walkman's popularity through their latest device: The Sony Ericsson W760a, 3G Walkman phone

The W760a will offer an accelerometer to let users shake or tilt to fast-forward to the next song or simulate motion while playing video games.

Integrating a digital Walkman score player with AT&T Mobile Music applications such as Napster Mobile, eMusic Mobile, Music ID and XM Radio, melody is in the forefront of the W760a's list of features but its only the beginning of the goodies. The W760a will feature Mobile Email, second messenger, full-HTML web browsing, a 3.2-megapixel camera and AT&T Navigator for turn-by-turn directions and mapping functions. Oh and you can exercise it to make and receive calls too.

The Sony Ericsson W760a is available for $129.99 after a two-year agreement and mail-in-rebate and comes in red, black and silver, by a silver scheme cliquish to RadioShack.

Coming in at just 13.9 mm thick, the KC780 somehow squeezes a 2.4-inch widescreen LCD display and a Schneider-Kreuznach certified 8-megapixel lens.

Face Detection automatically finds human faces for clearer pictures. Using Smile Detection technology, the KC780 recognizes the angle of the million's mouths and adjusts focus for faces. LG's SmartLight setting automatically fixes lighting. It has adjustable light sensitivity up to ISO 1600.

Built-in Image Stabilizer ensures photos come out clear and sharp, even when the user has the jitters. D1 Video recording captures DVD-resolution video and Smart Bluetooth allows to the phone to couple free from wires to a PC.

The LG KC780 will go on sale in November 2008, later expanding to Europe, CIS and Asia. Price not yet determined.

Sometimes it almost seems like Apple must have a target painted on its back. Since the release of the iPhone G3 in particular, just about every company out there has made a bid on grievous to attraction buyers in their direction. Samsung is poised to drop their latest slim slider with the silver finish in a little over a week on the Verizon network. Calling it the Sway, this reinvigorated handset will offer each MP3 player with Rhapsody, where music can have being side-loaded from a PC with a USB cable.

Also included is an integrated 2.0-megapixel camera with digital zoom and NightShot to enhance photos in dark environments. It will feature Bluetooth wireless technology with outline support for the sake of headsets, handsfree car kits, serial ports, vCards, and stereo music.

The Sway has expandable memory up to 8GB with external microSD card slot. Applications embrace mobile IM capabilities, personal organizer with calculator, calendar, tocsin clock, world clock, stop watch and notepad.

The Samsung Sway will be available in stores on Oct. 14.

Nokia's got a plan to wave a few possible iPhone buyers and it's called the 5800 Xpressmusic.

With touch screen technology, the 5800 XpressMusic introduces the Media Bar, a drop down menu for access to music and entertainment such as tracks, videos and photos.
With a single touch, users be able to track a digital history of recent text messages, emails, phone logs, photos and blog updates.

The 3.2-inch widescreen display offers up a 16 by 9 aspect ratio and 30 frames-per-second playback and recording. It features a 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens.
Additional features include a virtual alphanumeric keypad, a practical computer-style QWERTY keyboard, a pen stylus and a plectrum.

The music player includes a graphic equalizer, 8GB memory for up to 6000 tracks, a 3.5mm jack and support by reason of digital music formats and built-in surround well-founded speakers.

The Finnish confined apartment phone maker hopes to tap looking for a feature set and slim appeal of the iPhone without the steep hardware cost and will sell the 5800 XpressMusic for $395 or free from operators when signing up for a contract.

Finnish cell phone manufacturer Nokia has been working overtime to establish new markets for the upcoming quarter. Beginning a few weeks back when Nokia announced efforts to begin to appear up its media-sharing site and games offerings on the wildly popular social-connecting web site Facebook and it looks like the company isn't finished just yet.

Nokia's “Share on Ovi” media sharing service was converted into a Facebook application last month, and members of the network can play Nokia's “Reset Generation,” linking cell phone and PC gamers allowing them to play against each other.

Today Nokia followed up by saying that it will purchase Canadian mobile messaging company Oz Communications to give consumers access to time messaging services and emails through their mobile devices.

Privately owned Oz is headquartered in Montreal and has about 220 employees. Nokia said it was attracted by the Canadian company's technology that allows handset users to tap into familiar computing programs from Microsoft, Google and Yahoo.

While many are anticipating the arrival of the new Google phone (the G1) it turns out that perhaps nobody anticipates its arrival more than the company putting it out: T-Mobile. In anticipation of the phone's October 22 release, T-Mobile has lifted the cap without ceasing its monthly data plan.

The amendment was made just one day after T-Mobile announced the G1 (the first smartphone to use Google's Android operating system). The T-Mobile G1 will combine touch-screen functionality, a QWERTY keyboard with popular Google products such because Google Maps Street View, Gmail and YouTube.

T-Mobile stated it reserves the right to slow down trade for a “a small fraction of our customers who have excessive or disproportionate usage that interferes with our network performance.”

Sprint announced yesterday that it had completed the sale of about 3,080 towers to TowerCo for $670 million. Sprint will lease the towers back from the company it sold them to, freeing up cash to pay down its offence in the process.

The two companies involved have signed a long-term leasing agreement whereby TowerCo will provide Sprint with towers to bear up its CDMA, iDEN and WiMAX networks.

Sprint will conversion to an act the money raised from the sale to pay down some of its $24 billion in debt. In recent years Sprint has fallen far behind rivals AT&T and Verizon Wireless in subscriber growth and profitability.

However, Sprint is by in no degree means the first carrier to move absent from owning their own towers. Instead, companies like American Tower, Crown Castle International and smaller players be pleased by TowerCo, have taken over ownership of towers and then leased them back to the carriers who sold them.
